CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Hornets trade superstar Lamelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves sending waves of emotion and thoughts through The Hive. “I don’t think they got enough compensation. I mean, they got a couple pick swaps, but I don’t think the trade was worth it. I think th ey’re going to end up regretting it,” Max Haber, basketball fan said. Ball has been with the team since 2020 and earned Rookie of the year in 2021. Recent stats show injuries had him on the bench about 40% of his time playing on the squad. Fans say they expect to see fewer people at games without ball on the team. “Way less. The only time people are going to come now is when Minnesota comes into town. That’s it,” Chris Howard, basketball fan said. Ball is known for putting on a show on the court dropping dimes and buckets from downtown. He’s notorious for speeding in his fleet of luxury cars through the streets of Uptown. This dash cam video shows a recent crash from February. “I mean, he was destructing the streets of Charlotte with his driving, so it is better city,” Sabrina Jean Marie, Basketball Fan said. Some fans say they want to see The Hive buzzing over a new star. “I think that they need to bring somebody who has that energy about them and that finesse to be able to bring that attention back to the team,” Angelo Kadima, Basketball Fan said. Others fans say they don’t care who’s on the roster, as long as the hornets can win games. “I’m 22. We haven’t been worried about that since I’ve been alive, so we need to start that trajectory,” Chris Howard basketball fan said. Fans said they will be watching the franchise closely to better understand the rationale behind the trade. ...read more read less
