Bay Area restaurateurs are celebrating after the release of the latest Michelin Guide awards. Two local restaurants earned the guide’s highest honor of three Michelin stars. Californios in San Francisco became the first Mexican restaurant in the world to receive three Michelin stars. Chef Va l M. Cantu earned his first Michelin star for the restaurant in 2015. Enclos in Sonoma also moved up from two stars to three. Chef Brian Limoges opened the restaurant in 2024, and it earned two Michelin stars and a Green Star for sustainability the following year. Michelin stars are awarded by anonymous inspectors who evaluate restaurants on several factors. Three Bay Area restaurants earned one Michelin star this year: Troubadour in Healdsburg, Wolfsbane in San Francisco and Naides, also in San Francisco. In addition, Maria Isabel in San Francisco received the Michelin Guide’s Exceptional Cocktails Award. The Michelin Service Award went to Frida Blomdahl Hay, general manager of Sons Daughters in San Francisco.
