(CNN)– The United States no longer has the world’s most powerful supercomputer. An industry ranking called the ‘Top 500’ says China has bested the U.S. for the first time since 2017. The ranking indicates the ‘LineShine’ machine in Shenzhen is about 20% faster than the previous titleh older, a U.S. computer called ‘El Capitan’ based in California. Notably, Washington has measures to prevent China from getting chips called GPU’s. They power most modern supercomputers. China’s LineShine relies on homegrown CPU’s instead.
