Preliminary results are in for Tuesday’s GOP primary election in Wasatch County. It appears that Jeremy Hales has secured his party’s win for Wasatch County sheriff.  Though former Heber City Councilor Rachel Kahler has a slight lead over William Brett Vance, the two are separted by 84 votes for Wasatch County Council Seat A. Michelle Kellogg earned more votes than incumbent Joey Granger for clerk-auditor.  Luke Searle appears to have won the Republican primary for House District 59, which serves Wasatch and Summit counties. Final ballot counts from Tuesday’s primary election are still rolling in, with Wasatch County Republicans choosing their preferred candidates. Sheriff Hales seems to have cinched the Republican candidacy for Wasatch County Sheriff. Hales was running against incumbent Wasatch County Sheriff Jared Rigby. Hales earned 3,028 votes, or 66%, while Rigby earned 1,534 votes, or just about 34%, as of 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.  But the race is not over. Hales will go on to face unaffiliated candidate Paul Moore in November’s general election. Moore announced his candidacy in May. County Council Seat A In a tight race, Kahler, with 2,368 votes, or about 51%, seems poised to secure the Republican candidacy for Wasatch County Council Seat A. Kahler, a former Heber City Council member, ran against Vance, who earned 2,284 votes, or 49%.  Though Kahler secured the most votes in the primary election so far, she will go on to face Democrat Patrick Saucier for County Council Seat A in November’s general election.  Saucier said that he is running to help improve Wasatch County and grow community in the area.  Clerk-auditor Kellogg appears to have won the clerk-auditor’s primary election race over Granger. Kellogg earned 2,484 votes, or almost 54%, while Granger earned 2,147 votes, or about 46%, by 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. With only Republican candidates for the role, it is all but certain that Kellogg will become Wasatch County’s clerk-auditor after the general election in November. House District 59 Searle appears to have won out over Jeffrey Pierce in the Republican primary for House District 59, which serves Summit and Wasatch County. Searle won 228 votes in Summit County and 2,760 votes in Wasatch County. Pierce won 449 votes in Summit County and 1,959 votes in Wasatch County.  Searle will go on to face former Midway Mayor Celeste Johnson, a Democrat, in the general election this November.  The results are preliminary. Formal results remain pending certification. There are several tight races anticipated countywide, and additional updates will be provided later this week.
