Jun 23, 2026
A rancher in the Texas Hill Country is offering a sizeable reward to the person who helps him recover his missing giraffe.
In a post on social media on Monday, the Real County Animal Shelter-Rescue said “Gracie” had escaped her home at Cedar Hollow Ranch and was last seen on a game camera roa
ming in an area west of Leakey.
The Real County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to NBC 5 on Tuesday afternoon that the search for Gracie is ongoing.
Aside from a photograph and a description of “rounded ears,” no other information about Gracie was provided.
The shelter said in the post that the giraffe’s owner, Vick Jones, was offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the giraffe’s capture and safe return.
On Tuesday, two giraffe calves missing from the Natural Bridge Zoo in Virginia were safely located after being reported missing about a year ago.
Leakey and Real County, Texas, are located about 75 west-northwest of San Antonio and 125 miles west-southwest of Austin. Anyone with information about Gracie’s location can contact Vick Jones at 830-279-5822 or the Real County Sheriff’s Office at 830-232-5201.
