Dear Editor, Gov. Phil Scott selling Vermont the nuclear kool-aid is unacceptable. The governor insists that nuclear power is clean. He supports developing small modular nuclear reactors in Vermont. In an attempt to meet Vermont’s carbon commitments, the state wants to substitute the definitio n of “clean” for “renewable” to justify nuclear’s inclusion with H.601. Nuclear energy is neither clean nor green. We must do better. We need solutions that are truly sustainable and protect our communities. Scott is a nuclear cheerleader who ignores the problem of the radioactive waste already sitting on the banks of the Connecticut River. He supports policies that will make it possible to store more deadly waste at the site.  Supporting an industry that has yet to solve its waste problem is irresponsible. Given climate disruption and the potential for acts of malice, we would be better served by leaders who address our vulnerability to the waste sitting on the banks of the river. Vermonters must demand that the state and federal governments take action.  Contact your legislator!  Deb Katz Rowe, MA Read the story on VTDigger here: Calling nuclear power clean doesn’t make it true. ...read more read less
