A man was arrested and charged Monday in connection with a crash that seriously injured two pedestrians in May in Allentown, according to officials.
On Tuesday, June 23, District Attorney G. Holihan and Allentown Police Chief Charles Roca announced the arrest of Tyler Monzietti, 24, who is accuse
d of hitting a child and her grandmother with his car while they were in a crosswalk, and then leaving the scene of the crash.
On March 16, 2026, Allentown Police were called to the area of N. 6th and West Hamilton streets in response to a crash involving two pedestrians.
Prosecutors said surveillance video showed that around 5:40 p.m., Monzietti left an Allentown bar located at N. 7th and Hamilton streets and drove away in his 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
According to officials, just before the crash, Monzietti was stopped at a red light in the right-hand lane of West Hamilton Street, at the intersection with N. 6th Street, but he had his left turn signal on. A Ford SUV was stopped at the same light in the left-hand lane next to Monzietti.
At the same time, a child and her grandmother were standing at the northeast corner of the intersection waiting for the pedestrian signal to indicate that they had the right of way. As the signal changed to the “walk” indicator, the child and her grandmother entered the crosswalk on the north side of the intersection traveling westbound.
Prosecutors said video surveillance showed that as the light turned green, Monzietti accelerated his Jeep “rapidly” from the right-hand lane, while screeching his tires. He then illegally crossed in front of the Ford SUVwhich had started to move forward. Monzietti narrowly missed the Ford SUV, but continued to make the illegal left-hand turn into the intersection where he struck both the child and her grandmother in the crosswalk.
Video also showed Monzietti’s car hit both victims with the front passenger corner. Then, Monzietti is seen getting out of his car and running over to see “the child bleeding from her face.”
According to officials, Monzietti then got back into his Jeep and left the scene.
“City surveillance cameras showed Monzietti driving around for approximately 20 minutes, before Monzietti eventually returns to the scene of the crash and identifies himself to an officer,” officials said.
Prosecutors said the child suffered maxillary fractures, a mandibular fracture and had several teeth knocked outof her jaw. An Allentown Police officer on scene was able to save several of the child’s teeth bygoing to a nearby restaurant and putting them in a glass of milk. Those teeth were able to be reattached due to the officer’s actions.
The grandmother also suffered abrasions to her hands, fingers and knee, officials said.
Officials issued an arrest warrant and Monzietti surrendered on June 22.
The 24-year-old is now facing multiple charges including aggravated assault by vehicle and accidents involving death or personal injury and more.
Prosecutors said Monzietti was arraigned and released without having to post any bail, conditioned upon his written agreement to appear for future court appearances.
His preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 30 at 3:15 p.m.
