By McKenna Horsley, Kentucky Lantern · June 23, 2026 Kentucky Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell will not be voting this week following a recent hospitalization.  McConnell, 84, was admitted to a hospital on June 14 for an unknown reason.   “Senator McConnell is still working closely with st aff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery,” said spokesperson Stephanie Penn in a Monday evening statement. “However, he will not be voting this week.” The latest statement did not say if McConnell remains in the hospital, nor what he was being treated for.  McConnell, 84, was previously hospitalized in February. At that time, he had checked himself in last week “after experiencing flu-like symptoms.”  He announced last year that he would not seek reelection to the seat he’s held since his election in 1984. Republican U.S. Rep. Andy Barr and Democratic former state Rep. Charles Booker are campaigning to succeed McConnell in this fall.
