South Dakota State University Athletics officials have scheduled the groundbreaking ceremony for the future home of the South Dakota State women’s soccer program to take place on Tuesday, July 28, on the site of the future facility on the SDSU campus in Brookings. The ceremonial groundbreaking, which is open to the public, begins at 4:30 p.m. A social hour will follow the event starting at approximately 5 p.m. The ceremony follows the significant gift provided by Dakota Layers, LLC, and the Ramsdell family that was previously announced in November. Their gift is the largest investment on record for a woman’s-only initiative for SDSU Athletics. The facility will bear the official name of Dakota Layers Stadium, thanks to the generosity from Dakota Layers and the Ramsdell family. South Dakota State soccer’s new home will move the main competition facility from Fishback Soccer Park. The on-campus facility, Dakota Layers Stadium, will be situated east of Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium on the corner of Jackrabbit Avenue and North Campus Drive. Dakota Layers Stadium provides a centralized on-campus location for the program and creates a vibrant game-day atmosphere that will enhance the student-athlete experience. Some of the key features of the project include purpose-built spaces, a new competition pitch, state-of-the-art lighting, a new scoreboard, permanent grandstand and press box, as well as dedicated team bench areas. The expected completion date is August of 2027. Gift opportunities remain as a part of the building of Dakota Layers Stadium.
