The Giannis Antetokounmpo era is over. Milwaukee traded the superstar and forward Bobby Portis to Miami less than 24 hours before the start of the NBA Draft. According to ESPN, the Bucks are getting Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kasparas Jakucionis in return. They will also get three first-round picks, one pick swap and a second-round pick. After 13 years with the Bucks, he is the franchise’s all-time leader in nearly every major statistical category, including points, rebounds, assists and blocks. His 56 triple doubles is 48 more than any other player and he made roughly 1,600 more free throws than anyone else. A two-time Most Valuable Player, Antetokounmpo was voted into 10 All-Star Games and was an All-NBA pick nine times. He was also named to the NBA’s 75th anniversary team, a collection of the 75 best players in the league’s history. But the greatest achievement of his career was bringing an NBA Championship back to Milwaukee for the first time in 50 years. The NBA Finals MVP in 2021, Antetokounmpo fittingly scored 50 points in Game 6 to close the series, giving the city just its third ever title among the four major American sports. The 15th-pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, Antetokounmpo went from a scrawny, 6-foot-9 18-year-old to one of the most dominant players around the rim that the league has ever seen.
