(Updated) A 21-year old man from Waterbury was killed and two others were injured Monday afternoon following a triple shooting at the Fort Hale Gardens condo complex on Woodward Avenue. Monday’s homicide marked the city’s first of the year so far. The New Haven Police Department (NHPD) fir st posted on the social media site X at 2:04 p.m. that police were out “with a double shooting on the area of Woodward Avenue and Pope Street.” At 3:08 p.m., the NHPD posted that there was a third victim, as well. And at 5:02 p.m., the NHPD posted, “This is now a homicide investigation. The victim is a 21 year old male from Waterbury.” City police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart told the Independent that the call about the shooting came in at around 1:30 p.m. He said that the victims arrived at Yale New Haven Hospital at 20 York St. by private vehicle. As of around 4 p.m., police were still processing the scene and working to identify the shooting victims. “It appears it was in the driveway, parking lot area” of the complex,” Bruckhart said. According to the city’s most recently published CompStat report, through the week ending June 7, New Haven had seen 0 homicides so far this year, compared to six homicides by that same time last year. That report also shows that the city has seen eight non-fatal shootings and 34 confirmed shots fired so far this year, compared to nine non-fatal shootings and 42 confirmed shots fired by this point last year.
