KEY TAKEAWAYS: Updated French Quarter Task Force app allows Android and iOS users to report safety concerns directly to law enforcement. Geolocation technology connects residents, workers and visitors with supplemental patrols, which typically respond in under five minutes. App supports report ing of theft, vandalism, assaults, illegal weapons, suspicious activity and other quality-of-life issues. FQMD-funded patrols conducted nearly 50,000 citizen and business checks in the French Quarter during 2025. The French Quarter Management District has launched an updated version of its French Quarter Task Force mobile app, expanding access for Android and iOS users to report public safety and quality-of-life issues directly to law enforcement while in the French Quarter. The app, developed in partnership with SDT Productions LLC, uses geolocation technology to allow residents, employees and visitors to confidentially report incidents occurring within the French Quarter. According to the district, supplemental French Quarter patrols typically respond to reports submitted through the app in less than five minutes. The app is designed to help users report incidents including shoplifting, vandalism, assaults, fights, illegal weapons, illegal vending, blocked public passageways, suspicious activity and other quality-of-life concerns. The district emphasized the app is not intended to replace emergency services, and users experiencing life-threatening situations should call 911. “The French Quarter Task Force App will make the FQ a better place to live, work and visit,” Executive Director Michelle Courseault said in a statement. “FQMD currently funds supplemental patrols that cover the French Quarter 24/7. The French Quarter Task Force App allows users to easily alert these safety patrols if they witness anything that decreases their sense of security.” According to the district, the updated Android version has already led to increased usage. Capt. Sam Palumbo Jr., commander of the New Orleans Police Department’s 8th District, said the app provides another tool for identifying public safety concerns and coordinating law enforcement resources throughout the neighborhood. “The FQ Task Force App not only allows for the community to voice their concerns and receive a rapid response, but also helps me, as the 8th District Captain, better identify the needs of the residents and workers who populate the French Quarter daily,” Palumbo said. “The FQ Task Force App assists me not only with the deployment of our NOPD resources, but with coordinating all agencies working in the French Quarter to create a safer community.” The French Quarter Management District said it funds supplemental patrols staffed by New Orleans police officers, Orleans Parish Sheriff’s deputies and Louisiana State Police troopers. Those patrols conducted nearly 50,000 citizen and business checks in the French Quarter during 2025, according to the organization. In addition to security funding, the district supports public safety and quality-of-life initiatives, including emergency vehicle street markings, pedestrian safety signage and repairs to nearly 1,000 street lights in the French Quarter. The French Quarter Management District is a state political subdivision created by the Louisiana Legislature to support public safety, cleanliness and economic vitality in the historic neighborhood. ...read more read less
