Congratulations are in order for Los Angeles Dodgers’ two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani and his wife Mamiko Tanaka. The MLB superstar announced on social media on June 20 that he and his wife have welcomed their second child. “We are again overjoyed to experience this wonderful day in our liv es together. Thank you for being born safely,” read the social media post, signed “Shohei and Mamiko.” The post also includes a photo of the baby, wrapped in a blue blanket and wearing an outfit that features Ohtani’s beloved dog Decoy. The second slide of the post is a close-up of the baby’s feet. Ohtani refrained from showing the child’s face. “We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported our journey,” the post also said. While Ohtani never announced that he was expecting a second child, fans found out about the baby when the Dodgers announced on social media Friday that he was away from the team “on paternity,” missing the team’s first game against the Baltimore Orioles in a three-game series. Ohtani was not placed on the paternity list, however, and is expected to join the Dodgers as soon as Saturday. Ohtani and Tanaka wed in 2024 and announced the birth of their first child, a girl, just months later in a similar Instagram post. The baby’s feet are in the bottom left image of the post, and are also in her brother’s birth announcement in the same location. The same photo of Decoy is in the right corner of both birth announcements. 2024 proved to be a particularly eventful one, as Ohtani not only became an expecting dad, but his team also won the World Series against the New York Yankees. With two consecutive World Series wins under their belts, the Dodgers are looking to pull off a three-peat this year. They currently lead the league in wins with a 49-27 record.  This story first appeared on TODAY.com. More from TODAY: George W.
