Officials renamed a corner in the Germantown neighborhood in honor of the late activist Herbert “Drum” Burch. On Saturday, June 20, Councilwoman Cindy Bass hosted a street renaming ceremony to mark the official renaming of the corner of E. Collom Street and Wakefield Street to “Herbert ‘D rum’ Burch Way.” The renaming aims to honor the legacy of Burch, who was a community activist, veteran, healthcare professional, and political leader in the City of Philadelphia. According to officials, Burch was born in the Germantown section of the city and he was known for bringing people together through Unity Days, Father’s Day cookouts, holiday toy and bike drives and food distributions. “Today, his legacy lives on through his family, friends, former patients, and the countless lives he touched through his decades of service, compassion, and dedication to others,” a release says. ...read more read less
