Jun 20, 2026
A Jersey Shore man was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in February 2023, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Eddy Vilus, 33, learned his sentence four months after he was found guilty of multiple charges, including first-de
gree murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, in the killing of 21-year-old God Allah.
At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 2, 2023, officers with the Asbury Park Police Department responded to the area of Ridge and Springwood Avenues after receiving a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found Allah with a gunshot wound.
According to officials, Allah was transported to a hospital, where he died shortly after.
An investigation led detectives to identify Vilus and 34-year-old Quamere M. Smith, both from Asbury Park, as the suspects in Allah’s murder.
Vilus was identified as the person who pulled the trigger, prosecutors said.
A week later, charges were filed against the suspects.
Vilus was arrested during a traffic stop in Asbury Park on Feb. 10, 2023, when he was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun.
Smith was served his charges while he was already in custody at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in connection with a separate case.
In October 2025, Smith pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and first-degree conspiracy to commit murder.
Prosecutors said they intend to seek a term for Smith of up to 30 years in state prison, with 85 percent of the sentence to be served before the possibility of parole under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act (NERA).
Smith’s sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23.
Vilus was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus ten years with five years of parole ineligibility, according to prosecutors.
