Charlotte City Council to select interim mayor on Monday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Monday, Charlotte City Council will select an interim mayor. They’ll chose from five finalists: State Senator Caleb Theodros, attorney Harold Cogdell, Mayor Pro Tem James Mitchell, President of the North Carolina Bar Association Robert Harrington, and non profit leader Ca
rrie Cook.
All five were interviewed by council on Thursday. The winner will need six votes to secure the job. They’ll fill the mayor’s position until the end of 2027.
In May, current Mayor Vi Lyles announced her plans to step down at the end of this month. On Friday, Charlotte’s Black Political Caucus endorsed Harold Cogdell for mayor.
