Six governors are expected to appear in Deer Valley shortly, highlighting a lengthy list of attendees planning to gather for a conference touching on wide-ranging issues important to the region. The Western Governors’ Association annual meeting is scheduled at Stein Eriksen Lodge from June 30 until July 2. The Denver-based organization’s attendee list includes: Utah Gov. Spencer Cox Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon Hawaii Gov. Josh Green Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham Colorado Gov. Jared Polis Doug Ford, the premier of the Canadian province of Ontario, is also scheduled to attend. The Western Governors’ Association said no members of President Trump’s Cabinet are expected. The organization indicated the meeting will include the release of a report covering energy in the region. The report is anticipated to include recommendations for federal policies regarding the planning, financing, developing and deployment of energy projects, according to the Western Governors’ Association. Cox, the chair of the group, is also scheduled to end his chairmanship. Green has been tapped to become the next chair during the gathering. The attendee list late in the week indicated just over 400 people planned to travel to the event. The list includes numerous figures from state governments, corporate representatives and representatives from the not-for-profit sector. The pharmaceutical, banking and energy sectors are among those that will be represented. Park City Mountain owner Vail Resorts is sending a member of its government-relations team, according to the attendee list. The Park City municipal government said it does not have a role in the meeting. Some of the sessions include topics like the superabundance of energy, security in the innovation economy and student literacy. Tom Schultz, the chief of the U.S. Forest Service, is slated to deliver a keynote address and participate in a panel discussion. The gathering is scheduled toward the beginning of a stretch of summer that is expected to be busy. The conference closes two days before an Independence Day holiday that could be especially crowded with it falling during a three-day weekend for many and with the nation celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It will be the fourth time Park City has hosted the association’s annual meeting, following gatherings in 1995, 2009 and 2013. The general public may purchase tickets to the gathering.
