Hampden antique store Wishbone Reserve will close its doors for good this September. In a social media post Wednesday, owner Julie Lilienfeld shared the “bittersweet news” and thanked Baltimore customers for making her dream of owning a vintage and antiques business possible for the past 11 years. “Owning this shop has been one of the greatest joys of my life,” Lilienfeld wrote. “It has allowed me to connect with so many incredible people, immerse myself in the world of objects and furniture, buy the goofiest shit and become part of a community that I cherish deeply.” However, Lilienfeld also said it has been difficult to keep the business running. “This may come as a shock to some of you, but it’s damn near impossible to run a lucrative brick-and-mortar business in 2026,” she wrote. “Those of you still doing it – keep fighting the good fight. There is nothing more creatively rewarding than bring a dream to life and watching it become something real.” Lilienfeld and her co-founder and childhood friend Athena Hoffberger opened Wishbone Reserve in 2015 at 5730 Falls Road in Mount Washington.  Hoffberger told Baltimore Magazine at the time that the business’s name was meant to evoke a sense of tradition and curation. “Wishbone is always the name I had envisioned for a business,” Hoffberger said. “It’s representative of something that’s a great tradition and has been passed on from generation to generation. Reserve for us means that there’s a curated eye behind every choice and it’s not just a junk shop. We see something in everything we sell.” In 2018, Lilienfeld and Hoffberger moved the business just over two miles down the road to its current home, a converted industrial space at 3811 Falls Road, a couple blocks north of Hampden’s “Avenue.” “It’s great because it’s kind of a blank canvas,” Lilienfeld told Baltimore Fishbowl at the time. “We’re keeping its industrial sort of integrity, but we’re kind of juxtaposing it with our antique, vintage offerings.” Wishbone Reserve will be selling its inventory and fixtures over the coming months. The store is starting with 15% discounts and will continue to mark down items through August. The business is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. ...read more read less
