Fasihullah Safar, 17, of Alexandria, Va., pleaded guilty to several charg
es that stemmed from an incident that unfolded in Florence Township, New Jersey, on March 21, 2025.
It was around 4:30 p.m. that day when Safar crashed into a Florence police cruiser multiple times as the officer was on their way to assist with an overturned vehicle.
After the crash, the car that Safar was driving broke down on Route 130 near Station Road.
As officers arrived, Safar ran toward them with a knife and stabbed a police officer repeatedly in the chest. The officer was wearing a vest which protected them from more serious injuries.
Officers tried to arrest Safar but he fought back and caused injuries to at least two other officers.
One officer suffered injuries to his face and torso and two others were hospitalized but released after getting medical treatment.
Safar suffered a cut on one of his fingers that officials say was caused by his knife.
During his court proceedings, Safar explained that he had started following the Islamic State, formerly known as ISIS, and that he was planning to join them in order to “defend his religion.”
Safar admitted to his public defender when asked that he screamed “Allahu akbar” during the fight with the officers.
Safar pleaded guilty to attempted murder, aggravated assault and other related charges.
He was sentenced to 18 years in state prison.
