This week’s Commission Accomplished gives us a reason to mention Wil Lutz and Captain Leathers in the same sentence — which, admittedly, would have made for a pretty good football nickname for the former New Orleans Saints kicker.
The highest-priced home sale in the Greater New Orleans area for the week of June 7-13 was 52 Mistletoe Drive, which sold for $2.42 million. The Covington luxury home in Tchefuncta Estates was previously owned by Lutz, who played six seasons for the Saints before reuniting with former coach Sean Payton and joining the Denver Broncos. One MLS photo shows a framed No. 3 Wil Lutz jersey displayed prominently in the dining room. The jersey is surrounded by NFL footballs, helmets and memorabilia built into the room’s shelving.
A close second was 2027 Carondelet Street, a historic home that sold for $2.315 million and was originally built in 1859 for colorful businessman and steamboat captain, Captain Leathers. Rounding out the top three was 245 Glenwood Drive, a new construction home in Old Metairie that sold for $2.11 million.
52 Mistletoe Drive was built in 2023 in the gated Tchefuncta Estates subdivision. Crafted by Bluebird Development and Design, the French-modern, two-story luxury home features 6 bedrooms, 5½ bathrooms and 5,951 square feet of living space on 0.72 acres.
The interior includes wide-plank quarter-sawn white oak floors, Farrow Ball wallpaper, Susan Harter mural paper in the foyer, hand-set stone, sculptural lighting, and custom millwork. The floor plan combines spacious living areas with dedicated entertainment spaces, including a custom-designed study, cocktail room, formal living room, and family room with a marble fireplace. The chef’s kitchen features a La Cornue range, butler’s pantry, and an Arabescato Corchia honed marble waterfall island. The home also includes an outdoor kitchen.
The primary suite features a spa-like bathroom with Calacatta Gold marble and full-slab shower walls. The first floor also includes a guest suite. Upstairs, a flexible suite with a closet and bathroom is joined by three additional bedrooms and two bathrooms. Additional features include whole-home surround sound, a whole-home generator, outdoor cameras and lighting, and a backyard drainage system.
The listing agent on the June 10 transaction was Corynne Lindemann of McEnery Residential, while the sales agent was Anthony Rossi of Gulf Meridian Realty.
2027 Carondelet Street was built in 1859 for Captain Leathers, a colorful and dynamic businessman and steamboat captain who built many steamboats, among them seven called Natchez. Leathers would often travel the New Orleans to Vicksburg route; in fact; the Natchez VI made more than 400 trips without accident – an accomplishment in an era with little or no safety regulations.
Leathers’ historic mansion sits on a corner lot located one block from St. Charles Avenue. In 2012, the luxury home was restored to modern functionality while also maintaining original features. The two-story mansion features 5 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, 2 half bathrooms, and 6,382 square feet of living space on a 133′ x 165′ lot. The renovations included the replacement of electrical systems, and new copper plumbing, along with four new HVAC systems. Additionally, a new roof was installed in 2024.
The double gallery front porches with ornate scrolled ironwork lead to a front entrance flanked with stained glass. Inside, the grand center hall, which extends from the front door to the rear entry, is adorned with Baccarat Chandeliers and a carved staircase. The grand formal rooms – featuring 14′ ceilings – boast intricate crown molding, ornate plaster ceiling medallions, original gilded mirrors and chandeliers, floor to ceiling windows, plus wood floors and mantels. The large gourmet kitchen includes custom cabinets, a large center island topped with Italian marble, a dining area, a butler’s pantry, and a wet bar. The kitchen flows into a spacious den with a woodburning fireplace.
The second floor houses a large upstairs landing, surrounded by four bedrooms and a laundry room. The primary bedroom features a sitting area with a gas fireplace, a custom-built, walk-in closet, and a marble bathroom with a steam shower and soaking tub. Additionally, off the landing is an outdoor porch leading to a separate guest room with an en-suite bathroom.
The house also has an elevator, mudroom, wine room, back porches, and gated parking for multiple cars. The side and rear yards have manicured gardens, which take up half of the city block. The grounds also include an 1,820-square-foot, two story carriage house that was renovated in 2020. Downstairs in the carriage house is a full eat-in kitchen, study, half bathroom, and a great room with French doors overlooking the garden and patio. Upstairs in the carriage house are two bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms, laundry, plus a sitting room. The carriage house has been used for short-term rental.
The listing agents on the June 11 transaction of 2027 Carondelet Street were Maria Argote and Katherine Eshleman Morales, both of McEnery Residential, and the sales agent was Derek Delahoussaye of Rêve Realtors.
245 Glenwood Drive is a newly constructed home built in Old Metairie in 2025. The two-story luxury home features 6 bedrooms, 4½ bathrooms, and 4,461 square feet of living space on a 50′ x 120′ lot. The listing agent on the June 11 transaction was David Claus of Century 21 J. Carter Company, while the sales agent was Parrish McMichael Tadlock of LPT Realty, LLC.
A 16-foot front door entry features a 10-foot door topped by a six-foot transom window, which floods the foyer with natural light and highlights a curved staircase. The interior includes 12-foot ceilings and arches. The primary suite is located downstairs and features a spa-like primary bathroom that connects to a walk-in closet with a stackable washer and dryer. The gourmet kitchen features a hidden pantry that opens into a fully appointed secondary pantry with cabinetry. The dining room overlooks a custom, climate-controlled wine room with glass doors.
Upstairs includes five additional bedrooms, three bathrooms, a laundry room, and a loft. Expansive 10-foot sliding doors lead to a rear porch with a built-in outdoor kitchen. There is a garage and ample space for off-street parking.
