(Katie Philippi/Connoisseur Media)LINCOLN—(KFOR June 18)–Governor Jim Pillen on Thursday requested a federal disaster declaration, after eight Nebraska counties that suffered damage from severe storms between May 15 and May 18. Declaration fu nding would help cover costs related to public infrastructure that was damaged. The impacted areas include Buffalo, Fillmore, Gage, Howard, Jefferson, Nemaha, Thayer and Thurston counties. Damage included downed power poles, power lines, along with damage to schools, roads and buildings. Right now, damage estimates are hovering just under $5-million. Gov. Pillen has also requested access to the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, where Nebraska can apply for grants in helping mitigate future disaster losses.   ...read more read less
