Moments later, witnesses are seen running over to help the officer.
Responding officers shut down several roads and the MacArthur Causeway while they investigated.
7News sources said both ATVs were speeding to try to get to a burglary that was in progress nearby.
Cellphone video obtained exclusively by 7News shows the injured officer being rushed from the scene to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
The department told 7News on Wednesday night that the officer is listed in critical condition.
Sources told 7News that while at the hospital, she was alert and talking. They identified the patient as Miami Beach Police Officer Miona Mijalkovic, who was sworn in this past September.
7News cameras captured other members of the Miami Beach Police Department at the hospital showing support for their injured colleague.
As of Thursday morning, police have not provided further details about the crash or provided an update on Mijalkovic’s condition, as they continue to investigate.
