By Thursday, summer-like heat makes a comeback. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the lower 90s with a mix of sun and clouds. As the day heats up, the atmosphere will become increasingly unstable, setting the stage for scattered thunderstorms to develop during the late afternoon and evening hours. Most of the day looks dry, but by late afternoon our next storm moves in. Any storm that develops could produce brief heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds. Rain chances continue to increase Thursday night, with scattered showers and storms remaining possible through the overnight hours. Heat index values will reach the mid-90s during the hottest part of the afternoon.
Friday, as we celebrate Juneteenth, will feature a much more active weather pattern. Expect plenty of clouds at times along with numerous showers and thunderstorms developing throughout the day, especially during the afternoon and evening. The added clouds and rainfall will keep temperatures a little cooler, with afternoon highs topping out in the mid-80s.
Looking ahead to Father’s Day weekend, the forecast is shaping up nicely. Right now, both Saturday and Sunday appear mainly dry with a mix of sunshine and clouds. Daytime highs will remain in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees each afternoon. Humidity levels will begin creeping back up, so while the weekend looks favorable for outdoor activities, it will certainly feel like summer across the Charlotte area.
