Jun 17, 2026
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Marion County jury found an Indianapolis man guilty of a 2022 murder following a two-day trial, prosecutors announced Wednesday.
Dontae Robinson, 33, was convicted of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Robinson will face sentence
enhancements for being a habitual offender and owning a firearm.
News 8 previously reported in the early morning hours of Nov. 21, 2022, IMPD officers responded to reports of gunfire, discovering a man with gunshot wounds in a grassy area in the 3800 block of North Temple Avenue.
The man, later identified as Dayeon Mallory, 23, was taken to a hospital where he died.
While at the scene, IMPD recovered a black Croc-style shoe and a cell phone. The Croc, police say, belonged to Robinson.
Detectives reviewed security camera footage from nearby businesses, spotting both Mallory and Robinson in video from a gas station. Robinson was seen following Mallory as he left.
On camera, the two men were seen meeting in the open lot, where a fight broke out. Robinson then shot and killed Mallory before fleeing the scene.
In June 2024, police arrested Robinson without incident.
Robinson’s sentencing was set for July 9.
