5 women targeted in Jersey City acid attack

Five women appear to have been targeted in an acid attack in Jersey City, authorities say.
The women were standing outside a house on Wilkinson Avenue Monday when officials say individuals in a vehicle drove up and threw what is believed to be sulfuric acid at them.
All five victims were tak
en to a hospital for treatment of skin burns and peeling. They are expected to be OK.
Sulfuric acid is corrosive and rapidly destroys tissue, causing immediate burning, cell death, and, potentially, third-degree chemical burns that could lead to permanent scarring. In severe cases, exposure can be deadly.
A preliminary investigation finds the attack may have stemmed from a dispute between a large group of people earlier in the day. Meanwhile, the search is on for potential suspects.
Jersey City Mayor James Solomon said he directed the police department to deploy all resources necessary to find those responsible.
“My thoughts are with those hurt in this horrific attack, and I want our communities to know that violence like this has absolutely no place on our streets,” Solomon said in a statement.
