CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — A 98-year-old pop and jazz cabaret singer, first discovered at age 11 by the original “The Tonight Show” host, will be performing in September at a Carmel hotel, said a news release issued Monday.
Marilyn Maye, a Grammy Award nominee known as “the darling of New York
City’s bustling cabaret circuit,” will perform for a dinner-and-drinks show on the night of Sept. 3 at Feinstein’s at The Hotel Carmichael. That’s next to the Carmel Center for the Performing Arts.
The release from a public relations representative for the hotel said Maye began her professional singing career at age 9 and was discovered by Steve Allen, the original host of “The Tonight Show,” during her 11-year engagement at the Colony in Kansas City. Her appearance before a national television audience led to an RCA recording contract. She appeared 76 times on “The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.”
Maye has been a frequent performer at Feinstein’s/54 Below in New York, the release said.
Tickets, available online, start at $60.54 each, excluding a minimum food and drink purchase of $25. The venue has a capacity of 133 in its main dining room and bar, alongside an exclusive private dining room for up to 16 guests.
