The sisters of Our Lady of Angels Convent in Mishawaka, where the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration who are retired from active ministry live, have recently begun gathering for coffee each Sunday after morning Mass. Sister Mary Amata Naville, assistant vocations director, said the wee kly event began simply with a couple of sisters who wanted coffee after Mass, and it grew from there. “The sisters sit around and talk and started inviting other sisters, and the postulants and novices have started going over there, too,” Sister Mary Amata told Today’s Catholic. “Sundays are pretty laid back here at the convent, so it’s nice to have that intentional time together.” She said they started calling it a Kaffee Klatsch because the order has German roots. It translates to English as “coffee chatter.” Sister Mary Amata said that “every Sunday there’s usually a little crew there.” On average, eight to 10 sisters gather for coffee and conversation. Sister Mary Amata said it’s more of a social time, but some sisters may share their prayer intentions. “The older sisters tell stories about their time in religious life, and that’s really helpful for us younger sisters,” Sister Mary Amata said. “There’s usually a lot of laughter.” She added: “It’s almost become part of our vocation work, too, because when we have young women visiting, we bring them over to the Kaffee Klatsch and the sisters enjoy getting to know the young women. Sister Mary Amata said the convent is a big place, and sometimes it’s hard to find time for one another, so it’s nice to have that intentional time. “And the sisters are always inviting; they love making connections with the younger sisters and share their wisdom,” Sister Mary Amata said. “I heard one say to another the other day, ‘You know, we get together for coffee every Sunday, and you’re welcome to come.”   The post Sisters Enjoy Time Together at ‘Kaffee Klatsch’ appeared first on Today's Catholic. ...read more read less
