Woman dies after crash during pursuit in San Jose

A woman died and a man sustained major injuries following a crash in San Jose during a pursuit that started in Santa Clara on Sunday, according to the police department.
Police said the crash happened in the area of Naglee and Park avenues at around 12:19 a.m.
Santa Clara police said officers
observed a 2002 Buick sedan on Stevens Creek Boulevard driving recklessly, including driving on the center median and the wrong side of the road. Police said officer tried to pull over the Buick, but the vehicle refused to stop.
Authorities reported the vehicle continued driving through Santa Clara and Highway 880, and the pursuit continued into San Jose, where the Buick ran a red light at Naglee Avenue and struck a 2016 gray Toyota sedan.
San Jose police said the Buick was driven by a man and had a female passenger. The impact caused the Toyota, occupied by two women, to crash into a traffic pole, according to authorities.
Police said the woman in the Buick died at the scene and the man sustained major injuries and was taken to the hospital and into custody by Santa Clara police.
The women on the Toyota were taken to the hospital with injuries later determined to be non-life-threatening, according to authorities.
