Here is my take. I came into town 53 years ago coming into town and observed rolling hills of mine tailings. It’s now Prospector. It’s now a nice housing and a decent business district. I lived and worked there in the 1980s. The railroad came into town and there was an ore-loading station a bout or near were Bonanza Park is now, plus Anderson Lumber and other businesses. It’s always been an area for taxpaying business. About 10 years ago, Park City bought the area for $19 million for an arts and cultural center. Great, except viable businesses were taken down and arts groups have moved on. Setting on this land and scraping it has cost the city millions more. The city finally has a viable plan to develop it that could create business and housing that creates employment and a housing in a walkable setting. The opposition thinks it should be a park. A very expensive park when you think about its development and cost of maintaining it. Let’s finally get the area developed and move on. The whole thing reminds me of Summit County’s Tech Center, which they sat on it for years not promoting it and now will be acres of housing, adding no diversity to our economy. The city and county have done a wonderful job developing parks and recreation centers and trails. Let’s enjoy what we have and add a little diversity to our economy.
