Family remembers Philadelphia mother killed in alley brick attack
Jun 12, 2026
Family members and friends gathered Friday in North Philadelphia section at the spot where police say 45-year-old Keisha Furlow was beaten to death with bricks.
Loved ones came together to honor Furlow’s memory and mourn a loss they say has devastated the family.
“Whatever happened should
not have happened. My mom was very sweet, very much a bright person. My mom did whatever she had to do for everybody,” her daughter, Hysheemah Jubilee, said.
Police said Furlow was found Sunday lying on the ground in an alley with severe facial injuries. Investigators later recovered two bloody bricks near her body.
After reviewing surveillance video, detectives identified 30-year-old Dawaun Lewis as a suspect. He was arrested Wednesday and is facing multiple charges, including murder and robbery.
Family members and friends said they are still struggling to understand the violence of the attack.
“It’s a shame. This is the community we all grew up in. My grandmother lived down the street. To go away and come back and see this now, it’s sad,” family friend Alexis Stackhouse said.
Friday was also the graduation day of Furlow’s oldest daughter, adding another layer of emotion to an already painful week.
Jubilee spoke with NBC10 while holding Furlow’s youngest child, an 11-month-old daughter.
“I want her to know I loved her no matter what happened. Her baby will always remember her. My sister will always remember her, and I love her,” Jubilee said.
