Jun 12, 2026
WASHINGTON (WOWO): The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced 15 recent fair housing enforcement actions, saying the cases address allegations ranging from sexual harassment to disability discrimination and violations of protections for domestic violence survivors.
According to
HUD, the actions include charges, settlements and other remedies involving alleged discrimination against families with children, failures to provide accommodations for people with disabilities, sexual harassment claims, and violations of federal housing protections.
HUD Secretary Scott Turner said the enforcement actions are aimed at protecting Americans facing housing discrimination and ensuring compliance with federal fair housing laws.
According to HUD, its Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity has reduced a backlog of cases inherited from the previous administration by 27% while accelerating investigations and enforcement efforts.
HUD officials said a 2024 report from the department’s Office of Inspector General found that roughly 70% of fair housing cases were not closed within the 100-day timeline required by law.
Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Craig Trainor said the department is focusing resources on investigating and resolving complaints involving alleged housing discrimination and civil rights violations.
According to HUD, the Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status and disability.
The department said individuals who believe they have experienced housing discrimination may file a complaint through HUD’s fair housing reporting process.
