A two-month-old has been reunited with her father and a man was arrested after stealing a minivan that had a baby in the backseat and crashing into several vehicles, as well as a police car, according to the Philadelphia Police Department. Léelo en español aquí This all began just after 8 p .m. on Thursday, June 11 when a 34-year-old man stopped at Rita’s Water Ice on the 8600 block of Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. At that time, the man parked his red Toyota minivan, got out and left it running with his 2-month-old baby girl in the backseat, Chief Inspector Small said. He was standing next to the vehicle while his girlfriend was getting water ice, police said, when a 42-year-old man got into the minivan and drove off. Officers ended up seeing the minivan as it passed Grant Avenue and Academy Road where it hit a car as well as a police vehicle, officials said. The minivan continued onto Roosevelt Boulevard where it crashed into another car near the intersection of Red Line Road, Small said. The man got out of the car and ran into a wooded area where police chased him. The man was ultimately taken into custody and the minivan was recovered by authorities. The two-month-old girl was unharmed and was reunited with her father, Small said. Also, in a morning update, officials said the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation and a police officer was treated at a nearby hospital after suffering minor injures in this incident.
