Jun 10, 2026
San Francisco Unified School District Superintendent Maria Su will testify before Congress on Wednesday as part of a review of school districts across the country.
Su will be joined by the superintendents of Chicago Public Schools and Loudoun County Public Schools to discuss their districts’ tr
ansgender and ethnic studies curriculum as part of a larger review.
The hearing will be led by the Republican-led Committee on Education and Workforce and is titled “Breaking Trust: Attacks on Parental Rights, Inappropriate Content, and Legal Abuses in America’s Schools.”
District leaders are expected to answer questions on parental rights, inappropriate content and what some lawmakers are calling the indoctrination of children.
Su is one of three superintendents asked to testify. Ahead of the hearing, she addressed parents and families in a letter.
“Every day, my top priority is making sure that our students are learning, building meaningful connections with their peers, and receiving the support they need to thrive in our schools,” Su wrote.
She added: “Our core focus is ensuring that every student reaches our key outcomes: third-grade literacy, eighth-grade math, and college and career readiness.”
The San Francisco Parent Coalition has expressed support for Su and the work of SFUSD, saying it has pushed the district for stronger academic standards and better student outcomes.
In a letter to the committee, the coalition wrote: “Dr. Su has earned the trust of San Francisco’s school families through her steady leadership, transparency, and unwavering focus on children.”
The hearing is scheduled to begin later Wednesday morning at the Capitol.
