INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indy Gay Market is back for the city’s Pride Festival this weekend, and this year, it’s going to be bigger than ever.
The queer-focused pop-up art market returns Saturday and Sunday during the Indy Pride Festival, t
aking over Celebration Plaza and the Old Washington Street Bridge at White River Park from noon to 6 p.m.
With 130 vendors on hand, Indy Gay Market president Hannah Hadley says this will be the largest market in the event’s history.
This weekend’s market is the second of the season. Shoppers can expect a wide range of handmade goods, including T-shirts, stickers, and one-of-a-kind creations from local and regional makers.
But Hadley and Quinn Taylor, the market’s director of development, say the heart of the event goes beyond shopping.
“Even if you can’t come buy something, don’t feel like you have to — just come hang,” Hadley said. “People just have a good time. That’s what we really want to put out there.”
Taylor echoed that sentiment. “Something you don’t get to do a lot is interact with other creative people. Our vendors are always running around each other’s booths, seeing what everybody’s doing, talking, planning on working together. So it’s an opportunity not just for people coming, but for the people there.”
Both Hadley and Taylor are vendors and creators themselves, giving them a firsthand understanding of what makers bring to the space — and what it means to share that work with the public.
“It is joyful to share with others and to be seen,” Hadley said. “And that’s what Pride’s all about.”
The market is part of a broader Pride Festival footprint at White River State Park. A family and kids zone will be set up at the Indiana State Museum, and a community stage will be featured on the Old Washington Street Bridge.
The event is free and open to the public.
