Be cool and make a splash this summer INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – As summer heats up, many people are looking for places to spend time in the water. Kate Baumgartner from Indianapolis Moms joined News 8 at Daybreak to talk about the best water parks for families to relax and cool off this summer. The Waterpark – Carmel “My favorite is The Waterpark in Carmel. I just love this because there’s so much to do. You got the water slides, you have the Flow Rider, which is like your surfing simulator machine that my kids love. I love that there’s a variety of activity pools.” Baumgartner likes that this water park has designated areas for different age groups so that kids can stay safe. She also suggests on splurging for a cabana. The cabanas can fit 4-8 people depending on which size you rent. Cabana rental is anywhere from $80-$140. The Waterpark does offer concessions, but Baumgartner also says that families can bring in their own food. Glass bottles and alcohol are not allowed in. The Waterpark is about a 35-minute drive north of downtown Indianapolis. City Center Park Splash Pad – Greenwood “It’s just your classic splash pad,” Baumgartner says. She recommends packing dinner and going to this park in the evening if you want to avoid crowds. This park is also great for kids of all abilities. The park offers accessible playgrounds and is open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Center City Park is about a 30-minute drive south of downtown Indianapolis. Williams Park Splash Pad – Brownsburg “This is probably the splash pad of all splash pads. There is so much to do there.” The highlight of this park, according to Baumgartner, is the 40-gallon bucket that fills up and dumps water on the kids every five minutes. Williams Park is open from 10 a.m.-8:30 p.m. and is about a 35-minute drive northwest of downtown Indianapolis. Brookside Park-Indianapolis “If you’re looking for a good community pool, Brookside Park is the place to go.” Brookside Park has a lot of different activities for families beside the pool. They have basketball and tennis courts as well as disk golf and playgrounds. In the event of extreme temperatures, Indy Parks Family Centers are able to be used as cooling and warming centers for open hours. Brookside Park is about a 10-minute drive from downtown Indianapolis. ...read more read less
