The raises that the Park City Council gave themselves and the mayor are obscene, as most letter writers have noted. It is disingenuous because they said they wanted future applicants to have a living wage. If that is really how they feel, they could have made the raises start with the next election . I think the blowback would have been much less if we knew that they did not do this to enrich themselves. In addition, since the current raises apply to themselves, they should declare that this would be their only full-time job. What they need to do now is reduce the raises to what the staff has received since 2015 when the last increase took place. This is a money grab and they have been caught like deer in the headlights. Kudos to Bill Ciraco for standing alone in voting “no.” The Bonanza site is another fiasco. They need to listen to the residents, not the developer they partnered with. I don’t know if it is possible to put a referendum on the ballot, but that would be the easiest way to find out what we really want for that land, and I’m sure the outcome would be for a park with open space. They could always revisit that in future years, but you cannot remove buildings easily once they are built. I don’t have buyer’s remorse because I voted for Jack Rubin. I’m sure that at least seven other voters feel that way. The mayor was a coward not putting him on the council because he would be a voice for the people, not the developers.
