The intensity of Monday’s game three between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs carried into the stands at some point during the matchup, and led to a few seconds on screen for former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The 84-year-old had a courtside seat for the first game of the NB A Finals at Madison Square Garden since 1999, and he served as a crash-landing spot for Knicks guard Jose Alvarado. The speedy Alvarado landed on Bloomberg’s lap after taking a tumble while chasing down a loose ball. The former mayor acknowledged the collision on social media Tuesday, writing that it was “great to meet NYC’s homegrown star.” A spokesperson from Bloomberg, Inc. confirmed with NBC New York that he’s fine and “the only pain is from the Knicks’ loss last night.” Fortunately for Bloomberg, Alvarado comes in at 6′ 0″ and about 180 pounds, so better him for a collision with than Karl-Anthony Towns or Victor Wembanyama.
