Police are searching for a man accused of burning veteran grave markers and flags at a cemetery in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
On Tuesday, June 2, around 11 p.m., a Bristol Township police officer responded to the cemetery near Emilie United Methodist Church along the 7300 block of New Falls Road
in Levittown for a report of a man burning items on graves.
When the officer arrived, he spotted a small fire under a tree in the back of the cemetery and several burning items, including flags and veteran grave markers. Firefighters responded to the cemetery and extinguished the fire.
The officer then spotted a man – later identified as 27-year-old Troy Moore — near the gravestones in another part of the cemetery, according to the criminal complaint. Moore walked toward the officer while carrying flags and grave pieces, police said.
“When we responded out there our officers did locate this individual that was committing multiple crimes and desecrating a cemetery,” Bristol Township Police Officer Jason Mancuso said.

The officer told Moore to come over and drop the items in his hands but Moore didn’t comply at first, according to the criminal complaint. The officer then pulled out his Taser and repeatedly told Moore to drop the items, officials said. After a few more seconds, Moore dropped the items and the officer told him to sit down, according to the criminal complaint.
The officer said Moore was clearly intoxicated, slurring his words, and smelled like alcohol. When the officer asked him why he started the fire, Moore told him, “I’m just having fun,” before rambling about family members and arguments, according to the criminal complaint.

Investigators said the burned items included 20 American garden flags and 15 aluminum veteran grave markers valued at $750.
“I went and cleaned all the standards up that hold the flags because they had burned them. They were all soot,” Albert Burgess, a groundskeeper at the cemetery for more than 60 years, told NBC10. “You couldn’t tell what they were so I had to scrub them all. I’ve got them all ready to go back and when I see the flags I’ll put them in.”
Moore – who police said is unhoused – was placed in a holding cell where he was held for about eight hours until he was sober, officials said. He was then released without being processed, according to the criminal complaint.
Now police are actively searching for Moore who is wanted on charges of institutional vandalism place of worship, criminal mischief, public/private mutilating of a flag, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
“He can be anywhere in lower Bucks County. He could be in a multitude of camps,” Officer Mancuso said. “He could’ve went down to Philadelphia or he could’ve moved on. But at this time we don’t know where he’s at, and we would like to locate him.”
