San Antonio's Alamo Beer Co. to reopen taproom after 5month hiatus
Jun 05, 2026
San Antonio’s Alamo Beer Company will soon be back on tap. The craft brewing pioneer has been on hiatus since February to renovate its East Side taproom at 202 Lamar St., but says it will reopen in July.In December 2025, Brisbane, Australia, private equity firm SKJ Capital acquired the brand for a
n undisclosed amount, allowing the almost three-decade-old brand a new path forward after filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy the previous February. At the time, the company revealed plans to modernize the brewing facilities and refresh the Lake Flato-designed taproom.According to the original press release, SKJ Capital was brought in to provide “strategic oversight” to stabilize, grow, and avoid the fate of several San Antonio-area breweries struggling with declining sales. In the past two years, the region has lost several of its craft brewers, including Man Overboard, Vista Brewing, and Faust Brewing in New Braunfels. As part of the transition, SKJ Capital also appointed Jason Pond as Alamo Beer Co.’s new CEO. The longtime industry vet has nearly 20 years of experience in consumer-packaged goods, manufacturing, and supply chain management, with past roles at Firestone Walker Brewing Company, BrewDog, and Rogue Ales Spirits.SKJ said its renovations will increase the brand’s presence in the community and improve manufacturing capabilities. But it assured Alamo Beer fans that it did not plan to tinker with the product. The brewery will continue to brew its core beers, and buzzy one-offs like the viral King of the Hill collaboration.“With SKJ Capital’s leadership, Alamo Beer Company will continue producing the beers San Antonians know and love while enabling new seasonal releases,” said Eugene Simor, founder of Alamo, at the time. Alamo has not yet released the exact date of its grand reopening. Beer geeks can sign up for updates here.
