C. C. Claiborne II, the son of Louisiana Gov. William C.C. Claiborne – sold for $2,812,500, leading the highest-priced home sales in the Greater New Orleans during the week of May 24-30. The Marigny estate was followed by 572 Amethyst Street in Lakeshore, which sold for $2.25 million. Rounding out the top three was 56 Tokalon Place in Old Metairie, which sold for $2.22 million. 2111 Dauphine Street has had only five owners throughout its 167-year history, serving for both residential and commercial purposes, and most recently operating as the Claiborne Mansion Bed Breakfast. The late Cleo Pelleteri, who died in 2023, bought the property in 1993, ran it as a bed and breakfast until 2020, and later lived there after the pandemic. The listing agents on the May 28 transaction were Michael Wilkinson co-owner of FQR Realtors and Laura Amann of Studio LACO LLC. The sales agent was not available and listed under the designation of a non-MLS member. The Claiborne Mansion was previously featured in “On the Market” in April and was reduced from its previous listing price of $3.5 million. Located just blocks from the French Quarter in the heart of the Marigny, the Claiborne Mansion includes 9 bedrooms, 9½ bathrooms and 7,498 square feet of living space. The property sits on roughly one-third of an acre and includes landscaped grounds, off-street parking, a covered cabana, and a 40-foot saltwater pool. The Greek Revival style estate retains original mid-19th-century details including grand parlors, wrought-iron balconies, pocket doors and windows, cornices, soaring ceilings, and wide-plank wood floors. One notable preservation feature is that the main house still does not have a kitchen, as the kitchen remains in the original service wing where it was first built. The property is zoned HMC-1, allowing for residential, commercial and office use. 572 Amethyst Street was built in 2019 and the Lakeshore colonial-style home located by the lakefront features 4 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, 2 half bathrooms, and 5,082 square feet of living space on a 110-by-110-foot corner lot. The listing agents on the May 26 transaction were Cynthia Pacaccio and Norma Cannizzaro of RE/MAX Affiliates, and the sales agent was Phillip Lobman of Keller Williams Realty New Orleans. Highlights include 12-foot ceilings downstairs and 10-foot ceilings upstairs, engineered wood floors, marble bathrooms and countertops, custom wainscoting, and crown molding. The oversized den includes a gas fireplace, built-in shelves, and opens to the kitchen and breakfast area. The downstairs primary suite includes a fireplace, dual sinks and toilets, marble floor, oversized shower, freestanding tub, and a large custom closet. The chef’s kitchen is outfitted with Thermador appliances, a 60-inch gas range with double ovens, built-in coffee machine, separate refrigerator and freezer, wine cooler, 11-foot Calcutta marble island, large pantry with built-ins, and a butler’s pantry with ice maker and bar sink. Additional amenities include a first-floor office or guest suite, upstairs den, exercise room with sauna, sound system, three tankless water heaters, three A/C systems, whole-house water filtration, heated saltwater pool and hot tub, covered porch, outdoor kitchen, outdoor fireplace and television, surround sound, generator, irrigation system, mosquito spray system, and hurricane shutters. 56 Tokalon Place was built in 2006 in Old Metairie and the Acadian-style home includes 4 bedrooms, 2½ bathrooms, and 3,949 square feet of living space on a 100-by-166-foot lot. The listing agent on the May 28 transaction was Ingrid Garvey of Homesmart Realty South, and the sales agent was George Jeansonne of FQR Realtors. Set at the end of a nearly private street, the previously one-owner home features a full-width front porch, downstairs primary suite overlooking the grounds, elevator, hardwood floors, and a whole-house generator. The large garage accommodates two to three cars and includes additional space for a workshop or hobby area, while a half-circle driveway adds more parking flexibility. Inside, the house includes custom millwork, built-ins, abundant natural light and a large kitchen with oversized island, two dishwashers, Sub-Zero refrigerator, oversized range and oven with griddle, and a separate oven. There are expansive front and rear porches and a large backyard with lush landscaping, a fishpond, and an oversized cabana. The home also offers more than 300 square feet of fully decked walk-in attic storage.
