A man is dead after he was shot by a police officer Thursday night, West Chester police said.Police said officers responded to an apartment complex on Zinnia Court in West Chester Township around 9:50 p.m. Thursday after a neigh bor reported hearing a woman screaming for help inside an apartment.After attempting to contact the people inside the unit, police said officers entered the apartment. During a search of the home, police said officers encountered a man inside a bedroom.After that, West Chester police said an officer shot the man; police did not say whether the man was armed, or whether he posed a threat to police.The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released his identity.No officers were seriously injured, according to police.A woman in the home was taken to UC Hospital in West Chester for injuries that officials said were not life-threatening.The investigation remains ongoing.
