Alderman Larry Cronin opposed the resolution saying he’d spoken with officials at West River/Lyman Jones Rural Water System, the company that currently supplies water for Fort Pierre.

Larry Cronin went on to say he thinks a voluntary regulation causes confusion.

Hanson didn’t think the city office received any feedback about the voluntary lawn watering restriction last year.

Larry Cronin also said he’s concerned about the impact water conservation would have on the city budget.

The voluntary lawn watering restriction resolution can be brought up again at a Fort Pierre City Council meeting in the future, if dry conditions create concerns for the town’s water supply.
