The bill passed the Senate on May 13, 2026 and has been sent to the Governor for executive approval.
Drivers will no longer have to obtain one or two-year inspection stickers, but will pay an annual flat fee for a certificate of inspection.
How drivers will get new Louisiana Vehicle Identification Program QR code sticker
Every motor vehicle registered in this state will be required to have a Louisiana Vehicle Identification Program sticker that is visible to law enforcement and contains the vehicle identification number, according to the bill.
Vehicle Identification Program stickers will include a barcode or QR code and should be displayed on the bottom left corner of the windshield. The program will costs drivers an annual fee of $6.
Administrative rules and regulations of this law would be implemented starting on Dec. 31, 2026, however, law enforcement would not issue citations to any motor vehicle for failing to have a certificate of inspection, giving drivers a grace period that lasts until Jan. 1, 2027 to comply with new requirements.
Vehicle Identification Program stickers can be obtained when drivers register a vehicle or renew vehicle registration. Annual payments of $6 will be collected by the Office of Motor Vehicles.
