FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — Fort Wayne’s annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration will have a new launch site this year as city officials work to protect a nesting falcon and her unhatched egg. The City of Fort Wayne announced that the fireworks display on Saturday, July 4, will be launched fro m the top of the Harrison Square parking garage adjacent to Parkview Field in downtown Fort Wayne. The show is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. The change marks a departure from previous years, when fireworks were launched from the Indiana Michigan Power Center. According to city officials, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources recommended relocating the event to avoid disturbing a falcon that has nested at the site and is currently caring for an unhatched egg. Residents and visitors attending the Fort Wayne TinCaps game that evening will have a front-row view of the fireworks. The TinCaps are scheduled to host a game beginning at 6:05 p.m. at Parkview Field. City officials said if the game has not concluded by 10 p.m., the fireworks display will begin immediately following the game’s completion. The annual Independence Day event is being supported through a partnership between the City of Fort Wayne, NAI Hanning Bean, and the Fort Wayne TinCaps, which are serving as financial sponsors for the celebration. City leaders thanked NAI Hanning Bean and the TinCaps for their contributions, saying the support helps ensure the community can continue to enjoy one of Fort Wayne’s most popular Fourth of July traditions. The fireworks display is expected to draw thousands of spectators to downtown Fort Wayne as residents gather to celebrate Independence Day.
