Mamdani dodges question on potential Trump meeting around Knicks Game 3
Jun 04, 2026
Mayor Mamdani has already purchased his ticket to Game 3 of the NBA playoffs, according to a spokesperson.
The spokesperson did not say how much Mamdani paid for his ticket, but Thursday morning Hizzoner implied he would be sitting in “the cheap seats” – if there is such a thing – when as
ked about President Trump’s plan to attend the same game at Madison Square Garden on June 8.
“I will be at game 3,” Mamdani said at an unrelated news conference Thursday morning.
“I will be in a very different section of the stadium,” Mamdani added, referring to the President.
As this story was posted, the least expensive tickets to Game 3 were listed at more than $7k on apps Vivid Seats and Gametime. President Trump said he had been invited to the game by MSG CEO James Dolan, a donor.
The White House did not immediately respond to an NBC New York inquiry about where Trump will sit and whether he would join Mayor Mamdani in “the nosebleed seats.” That’s where the Mayor cheered the Knicks alongside Public Advocate Jumaane Williams last month, Mamdani saying he paid $700 for his ticket.
The Mayor implied Trump is welcome at MSG, saying “I think we look forward to welcoming any New Yorker who is excited for the Knicks to have the chance to win that championship.”
As for whether the Mayor was required to purchase his ticket, NYC ethics rules bar local officials, including mayors, from accepting gifts worth more than $50 from people with business before the city, but also allow for officials to attend sporting events in their official capacity in some cases.
