Multiple emergency agencies responded Tuesday to a carbon monoxide leak at a nursing and rehabilitation facility in Terrell. According to emergency officials, crews were called to the Terrell Healthcare Center in the 200 block of W. Nash St. after high levels of carbon monoxide were detected at t he facility. The response included Terrell police and fire personnel, Kaufman County EMS, CareFlite and other agencies. Cedar Hill Fire Department was also requested to send its Ambulance Bus, or AmBus, to assist at the scene. The Terrell Fire Department Fire Marshal later confirmed a carbon monoxide leak at the facility. Officials said the leak has since been stopped and there is no ongoing release of carbon monoxide. As of Tuesday evening, five patients have been transported for additional medical care, according to the Terrell fire chief. In a message sent to families, Terrell Healthcare Center said carbon monoxide was detected in a portion of the facility. The facility said emergency responders were conducting assessments of residents and evaluating the environment. “At this time, residents are being assessed individually and triaged appropriately based on their condition and needs,” the message stated. The facility told families it was working closely with emergency responders and said families would be contacted if a resident required additional evaluation or transfer. Terrell police said the fire department continues to investigate and asked the public to avoid the area while emergency operations remain underway.
