A car that crashed into a building and evidence markers on the street were among the clues San Jose police were piecing together as they tried to determine what led up to a triple shooting near South First and East Reed streets early Sunday morning. Police say three people were taken to hospitals . Chrissy Derksen runs a bed-and-breakfast across the street. “It’s scary, really scary and very concerning for my business,” said Derksen. One man who lives in a nearby high-rise apartment said he was surprised to learn how many people were shot near his home. But he was also frustrated he couldn’t drive his car out of the parking garage Sunday because of the ongoing investigation. “Given we can’t take the dog out and we can’t take the cars out, it’s kind of a hassle,” said neighbor Ali Gaf. Police are not saying whether the victims were men or women or how badly they were hurt. “It just confirms what’s going on, and you have to be aware and careful,” said Carla Robbie of San Jose. Nick Cochran says he has lived in San Jose for 45 years and wonders whether the shooting will keep people away from downtown. “It’s trying to reassert itself again and become a vibrant downtown area and when these sorts of things happen it kind of sets it back a little bit. And it will make people a little more reticent to come down here. That’s my big fear,” said Cochran. One neighbor said police knocked on her door and told her they were investigating a drive-by shooting. Police have not confirmed that information or said whether the driver of the car that crashed into the building was belonged to one of the shooting victims.
