The Democratic primary runoff between former Rep. Colin Allred and U.S. Rep. Julie Johnson for Texas’s 33rd District is nearing the finish line. Both Johnson and Allred previously represented Texas Congressional District 32, and now they’re competing for Congressional District 33. Allred served as the U.S. representative for Texas’s 32nd congressional district from 2019 to 2025. He previously served in President Barack Obama’s Administration at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. According to Allred, he “is running for Congress to fight for Texans who work hard and play by the rules but never feel like they can win.” Johnson currently serves as a U.S. representative for Texas’s 32nd congressional district. Johnson was elected to the seat in 2024, the year Allred lost his U.S. Senate challenge to Republican Sen. Ted Cruz. Allred was running for Senate again this cycle, but dropped his bid and is now looking to return to the House.
