The Miners boys tennis team went to the state tournament on May 8 and 9 at the Liberty Park Tennis Center in Salt Lake City optimistic that they could improve on their fourth place showing from last season.  Park City returned all of their state players from last year’s run, with the exceptio n of their one doubles team, and were able to clinch a share of the 4A Region 10 title alongside Highland in late April.  For all of the Miners state players (one, two and three singles and one and two doubles), the road this year would end in the quarterfinals of their individual brackets. Each position earned the team three team points, and Park City finished in seventh place.  “The guys know we left some on the table,” Miners Head Coach Cole Lee said. “We had three quarterfinal matches that went three sets and easily could’ve gone our way.” But Lee was still proud that his boys went out swinging against quality opponents.  Desert Hills of St. George walked away with the title.  “Our message was for everyone to hold their head up high,” Lee said. “To not let our finish at state take away from all of our accomplishments this season.” Lee said his favorite moment this season with the group was winning the region, glad his boys got a taste of what postseason success feels like.  “They really enjoyed that,” Lee said. “Other favorite memories are the road trips to-and-from away matches, our guys battling their hearts out at state, seeing everyone develop and progress as players and people and spending time with our seniors, who are a quality group of kids.” Lee believes this team took steps toward contending at state in future seasons.  Park City will return much of its team again next season, including one singles player Thomas Rogowski, two singles player Gavin Gurule and three singles player Ethan Bailey.  “Super excited for next year’s team,” Lee said. “We have a lot of bright young talent coming through the pipeline. We’ll be a stronger team at the start of next season.” Lee will call on his players to commit to the sport in the offseason and do things like enter tournaments to gain repetitions. He will also ask returning players to be leaders and set the standard high for new players.  “The steps to contend for a state title are clear,” Lee said. “Our players know it.” The post Miners boys tennis team falls a little short at state appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
