2 men injured in — possibly connected — West Philly shootings, police say
May 26, 2026
Two men have been hospitalized after being shot overnight and, officials said, investigators are working to determine if both were hurt in connected shootings.
According to Philadelphia Police Inspector Scott Small, the investigation began after officers in the city’s 18th police district hear
d multiple gunshots near the intersection of 60th and Sansom streets just after midnight on Tuesday morning.
After rushing towards the sound of gunfire, Small said the officers discovered a 21-year-old man who was alert and talking after being shot in the stomach twice. Also, Small said, the man was armed with a semi-automatic handgun that he was permitted to carry.
This man was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where Small said, he was listed in stable condition.
However, Small said, the injured man told police he was hurt after three males got out of a dark-colored SUV and approached him before producing weapons and opening fire.
The injured man then returned gunfire with his own weapon, Small said.

Shortly after police learned details in this incident, Small said that officers received a report after a man was found at the intersection of 60th and Pine streets, just about a quarter of a mile from the scene of that initial shooting, after he had also been shot.
This 20-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital where, Small said, he was listed in stable condition after suffering a bullet graze wound to his head.
Now, investigators are working to determine if both men were injured in connected shootings, he said.
At the scene at 60th and Sansom streets, investigators found about 15 spent shell casings that appeared to come from different firearms, Small said. He also noted that a rifle was discovered under a parked car at that intersection.
But, the rifle’s bullets don’t match the casings of any of the spent shells found at the scene, Small said.
No dark-colored SUV has been located, he said, but investigators were working to secure a search warrant for an apartment at 60th and Pine streets that may be connected to this case early Tuesday morning.
Small also said that surveillance cameras at both scenes could help police determine what happened as this investigation continues.
An investigation, he said, is ongoing.
